Mrs. Russell De Lap, 78, died Thursday, Feb. 11, in a Viroqua nursing home. The former Elizabeth Sheldon was preceded in death by her husband in 1950. Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Sever Erickson of Viroqua, Mrs. Earl Gilman of La Farge, Mrs. Percy Sandwick of De Soto and Mrs. Leonard Veglahn of Kenosha; six sons, Fred of Janesville, Vernon of Viroqua, Ray of Racine, Berlie of Big Sandy, Mont., Mason of De Soto and Donald of Milwaukee; three sisters, Mrs. John Davis, Mrs. Earl Fortun and Mrs. Glenn Gilman, all of La Crosse; and three brothers, Staner of Janesville, Elmer of La Crosse and Tom of Viroqua. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Bad Axe Lutheran Church, Rev. O. J. Nesheim officiating, and burial will be in the Church cemetery. Friends may call at the Jacobson and Vance Funeral Home in Viroqua Monday evening. Vernon County Museum Obituary file Mrs. Russell (Lizzie) DeLap passed away very suddenly after a brief illness on February 11, 1965 at the Home for Retired in Viroqua at the age of 78. She was born in the town of Sterling to John and Olga Sheldon on Oct. 3, 1887. She was baptized and confirmed in the Bad Axe Lutheran Church by the Rev. Aushiem. She was united in marriage to Russell DeLap on Dec. 29, 1905. To this union was born ten children who are left to mourn her passing. Four daughters, Mrs. Sever (Hazel) Erickson, of Viroqua, Mrs. Earl (Mae) Gilman of La Farge, Mrs. Percy (Hope) Sandwick of De Soto, Mrs. Leonard (Ona) Veglahn of Kenosha. Six sons, Freddie of Janesville, Vernon of Viroqua, Ray of Racine, Berlie of Montana, Nathan of De Soto and Donald of Milwaukee; also 31 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. John Davis, Mrs. Earl Fortun and Mrs. Glen Gilman, all of La Crosse. Three brothers, Stener of Janesville, Elmer of La Crosse and Thomas of Viroqua. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 13, 1950, also two sisters and four brothers. Lizzie was a kind and loving mother and never tired of doing for her loved ones who will sadly miss her. Blessed be her memory. Funeral services were held at Bad Axe Lutheran Church on Feb. 16. Pastor Nesheim officiating. Burial in Victory Cemetery. Nathan LaMont DeLap, age 69 of Viroqua died on Sunday, August 26, 1990 at the Bethel Home in Viroqua. He had fractured his hip on August 4 and became a resident of the Bethel Home on August 15, 1990. He was born on March 29, 1921 in the town of Sterling, Vernon County to Russell and Lizzie (Sheldon) DeLap. He had worked in Racine and Kenosha but most of his working years were as a farm laborer in Vernon county. Prior to moving to Viroqua he had lived in Liberty, rural Viroqua for several years. Nathan is survived by two brothers, Fred DeLap, of Victory, Donald DeLap, of Ridgeland; four sisters, Mrs. Hazel (Sever) Erickson, of Westby, Mae Gilman, of La Farge, Hope Sandwick and Ona Veglahn, both of Viroqua; several nieces and nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Ray, Berlie, and Vernon DeLap. Nathan LaMont DeLap was enumerated on the census of 1930 in Genoa City, Vernon County, Wisconsin, USAG.
