Biography
George Danford Mason was born on 23 Nov 1877 in Viroqua, Vernon County, Wisconsin, USAG.1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 He died on 15 Oct 1947, at age 69, in Fallon County, Montana, USAG, Age: 69.3,8,9 He was buried in Oct 1947 in Ismay, Custer County, Montana, USAG.8 Rites Held for Ismay Rancher After Fatal Accident With Horse Funeral rites were held in Baker at the Owen funeral home for the late George Danford Mason rancher of near Ismay, whose body was found at his ranch home by a young nephew, death resulting from a self-inflicted shot gun wound. The note near the man's body explained "get rid of that sorrell horse, he's a man killer, he darn near killed me." It was believed that the horse had injured Mason so severely that he was unable to go for help and that his suffering increased to the extent that he took his own life. Coroner Lloyd Owen judged that Mason had been dead about two weeks before the body was found. The time of his death was partially set by the fact that he had been in the habit of marketing eggs and cream weekly at Ismay and had not been there for three weeks. Mr. Mason was born in Vernon county, Wis., November 23, 1877. He was one of the family of six children, next to the oldest. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mason preceded him in death. He came to Montana in the fall of 1913 and homesteaded on north Cottonwood near where he spent most of the past 34 years. Surviving are three brothers, Alvin Mason of Gary S. D.; Arlo Mason of Virginia, Wis., and Eugene Mason of Spokane, Wash. and one sister, Mrs. Jessie Higgins of Ismay. His young nephew was hunting with his brothers on the range and dropped in to see his uncle when the body was found, the latter part of October. Rev. G. E. Meyer officiated at the final rites and interment was made at Ismay. George Danford Mason resided in Viroqua, Vernon County, Wisconsin, USAG, on 1 Jun 1880 Age: 2; Marital Status: Single; Relation to Head of House: Son.2 He resided in Webster Township, Vernon County, Wisconsin, USAG, on 1 Jun 1900 Age: 22; Marital Status: Single; Relation to Head of House: Son.4 He resided in Custer County, Montana, USAG, in 1917.7 He resided in Ismay, Custer County, Montana, USAG, on 1 Apr 1930 Age in 1930: 52; Marital Status: Single; Relation to Head of House: Son.1
