Kenneth Charles DeLap held the title Dr. Dr. Kenneth C. DeLap was born on a farm in Vernon County on March 24, 1916, the son of Reuben W. and Julia (Baumgartner) DeLap. He graduated from Viroqua High School and then attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He graduated with honors from the Chicago College of Dental Surgery of Loyola University in 1944. He was chosen a member of both the Omicron Kappa Upsilon and the Blue Key national honorary dental societies. In 1943 he was united in marriage to Louise Humke of Dubuque, Iowa. Ken had served in the Navy from 1944 until 1946. He then returned to Viroqua where he practiced for several years with Dr. Roy Baldwin. He had practiced dentistry in Viroqua for nearly 40 years. Ken was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fraternal Order of Eagles. He also was a member of the American Dental Association and the La Crosse District Dental Association of which he was a past president. He also was an Eagle Scout and had served on the local Boy Scout Council for a number of years. He had been appointed to the Wisconsin Board of Dental Examiners, but did not serve on the board because of a change in administration. Kenneth passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, January 1, 1986 at the age of 69 years. He is survived by his wife Louise, one daughter Elizabeth (Mrs. Michael Elko) of Minneapolis, one son Kurt of the Netherlands, and one grandson Michael Elko III, two brothers Bernard and Karl both of Viroqua, three sisters Maurine (Mrs. Weston Severson) of Belleville, Wis. Lorraine (Mrs. Connie Hendrickson) of Windsor, Wis. and Ruth (Mrs. Roger Bayles) of Sun City, Arizona, nieces, nephews and other relatives. The funeral service for Ken was held at the Viroqua United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 4, 1986 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Barry Yarbro officiating. Mrs. Kathy Hanson was the organist. Those who served as casket bearers included Carl Hendrickson, Ron Severson, Weston Severson Jr., Jerry DeLap, Jim De Lap and Jerry Baumgartner. The final interment was in the Viroqua Cemetery with military rites conducted by the members of the Viroqua American Post 138. A visitation was held at the Larson Funeral Home on Friday evening.
