Harold Alvin Gunn went home to heaven to be with his Lord on February 6, 2004, at his home in Scotts Valley, California. Harold was born on January 6, 1916, on the family farm in Nickerson, Kansas. He grew up in Kansas until the family moved to California in 1934. In 1938 he married Nelle Tanner and the couple had two children, Bob and Judy. Harold loved to work with his hands and he loved animals. This is reflected in the occupations he enjoyed throughout his life - building contractor, wheat farmer and dairy farmer - in California, Washington and Kansas. After his wife Nelle passed away in Kansas, Harold moved back to California and continued working as a building contractor in the Santa Cruz mountains. In 1980 he married Lillian St. Ores and lived in Mount Hermon and Scotts Valley for the past 23 years. In recent years Harold has enjoyed designing and building bird houses and model train sets. Harold's delightful sense of humor, love of serving people and his strong faith in God will be remembered by all who knew him. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and husband devoted to the well-being and care of his family. Throughout his life he enjoyed extensive involvement in his local church, many times using his building skills. During his final days, his greatest concern was that people around him have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and experience the peace and joy he had. Harold is survived by his wife, Lillian; his son, Bob Gunn (Mary) and his daughter, Judy Gunn all of Panama City, Panama; his two step-daughters, Shelley Toreson of Beaverton, Oregon and Judy Blanchard (Dave) of Portland, Oregon; two grandsons, six great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters, all of Panama; two step-grandsons, four step-granddaughters and three step-great grandsons. Harold is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Gil and Marge Gunn of Mount Hermon, California, two nephews and a niece. Harold also leaves behind many friends and extended family whom he enjoyed so much. The Gunn Family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Dominican Hospital and RCU for their great care of Harold. He appreciated each one of them and their loving service to him. We would also like to thank the staff of Hospice Caring Project - you all served him and cared for him so well. On his deathbed, DL Moody said, "Soon you will read in the newspaper that I am dead. Don't believe it for a moment. I will be more alive than ever before." That is true of Harold as well.
