Nellie Joan Miles, 70, Mt. Carmel, died May 17, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. She was born June 13, 1930, in Bellmont, the daughter of Arthur and Edna (Middleton) Bare. Mrs. Miles was a member of the First Baptist Church of Albion, the Wabash and Edwards Retired Teachers Association and was an American Red Cross volunteer. She taught school in District 348 for 23 years before her retirement. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Chester Miles of Mt. Carmel, a son, David C. Miles of Evansville; two daughters, Susan (David) Taylor of Marshall and Debra (Phillip) Beal of Mt. Carmel; five grandsons, Adam, Kevin and Scott Taylor; Brian and Elliott Beal; two brothers, Duward Bare of Lansing, Ill. and Doyle Bare of Robertsdale, Ala.; three sisters, Edith Corrie of Daytona Beach, Fla., Evah Veihman of Mt. Carmel and Arlene Peach of North Little Rock, Ark. Preceding her in death were her parents, sister, Shirley Fitzgerald and two brothers, Wilford and Dale Bare. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 21, in the chapel of Short Funeral Home with burial in Highland Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross or the First Baptist Church in Albion.
