She graduated from McClure High School, was a waitress, farmed with her husband from 1955-1990 and was a nurses aide in private duty. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Stryker and its Altar Guild, Williams County Board of Elections and Moose Lodge 1064 Auxiliary and a 4-H adviser with Daisy Maydens Club. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jim (Connie) Steck of Toledo and Jane, Stryker; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Oberlin, Stryker; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen (Planson) Powell of Cuyahoga Falls and Darlene (Planson) Bayless, Huber Heights; and three grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Larry Gunter; and a sister-in-law, Jeannie Oberlin. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Lutheran Church, Stryker, with Rev. Dane Meuschke officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Stryker. Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Friday in Grisier Funeral Home, Stryker. Preferred memorials are to the church, Stryker Athletic Association, Stryker Public Library or American Heart Association. Lynda was born June 27, 1940, in Liberty Center, to the late Lloyd and Lucille (Rohrbaugh) Hefflinger. She married LeVerne A. Gerken on July 9, 1960, in Napoleon and he survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Shelby (Kenneth) Marckel, Ayersville; a son, Jerry (Tina) Gerken, Findlay; five grandchildren, Tessa and Tabitha Gerken and Jarrett, Isaiah and Chelsea Marckel; and a brother, Rodger (Cathy) Hefflinger, Napoleon. Mrs. Gerken was a 1958 graduate of Napoleon High School and graduated from the Toledo Beauty Academy. She was a food server with Maumee Valley Vending at Liberty Center High School for many years. Lynda had also been employed as a cook and waitress at Always Welcome Tea Room and the Liberty Center Dairy Bar and wrote a society column for the Liberty Press. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Liberty Center, where she was past president of the women of the church and served on the evangelism board. She was the founding member and past president of the Der Blume Garden Club and a member of the Liberty Center Athletic Boosters and the River City Rodders. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2007, at the church, Pastor Jeffrey Stone presiding. Burial will follow in Hoy Cemetery, near Napoleon. Friends are invited to visit on Thursday from 2-9 p.m. in the Wright Funeral Home, Liberty Center. Memorials are suggested to the church or the American Diabetes Association.
