Robert L. Staninger, 82, of Creal Springs, Ill., formerly of Mt. Carmel, died on Sept. 3, 2004, at his residence. He was born on Aug. 24, 1922, in Mt. Carmel, the son of Morris M. and Hazel (Rasico) Staninger. Mr. Staninger graduated from Mt. Carmel High School and attended Mississippi State College. He retired from the United States Air Force in 1964, after serving in Europe and the Far East Theaters. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and held membership in the Masonic Lodge, Johnston City, Ill., Royal Arch and Knights Templars, Metropolis, Ill., Scottish Rite, Belleville, Ill., Ainad Shrine Temple, East St. Louis, Ill., Williams County Shrine Club, Marion, Ill., and Elks Lodge of Marion. He married Margaret R. Denton of Austin, Texas, on Sept. 6, 1948. She preceded him in death. He is survived by a close family friend, William Kissing, Pittsburg, Ill. Also preceding him in death were his parents and a daughter, Patricia Margaret Staninger. Memorial services will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7, at his residence at 622 Dongola Ct., Creal Springs, Ill. 62922. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Cunningham Funeral Home in Mt. Carmel, with burial in Highland Memorial Cemetery. There will be no public visitation or service.
