She attended and graduated from Hamilton High School with the Class of 1929. On December 23, 1931 Margaret was united in marriage to Alfred E. Hempen in Sutter, IL. Mrs. Hempen was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk, the Ladies Service Circle, and the Kings Daughters. She was a regular card player with a group of friends and enjoyed playing Bingo and cards at River Hills. Margaret was formerly employed at the Graham Hospital in Keokuk, retiring after many years of service. Margaret Caroline Hempen died Monday, February 23, 2004 in the Keokuk Area Hospital at the age of 92. She is survived by two sons, Wm Hempen and his wife Evelyn of Elvaston, IL and Alfred Hempen, Jr. and his wife Marilyn of Hamilton, IL, one daughter Clarice Ellison of Keokuk, IA, eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren, one sister, Eunice Koehler of Denver, CO, one brother, Edwin Koehler of Hamilton, IL, nieces, nephews and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred on December 29, 1950, her parents, four grandsons, Billy, Terry and Steve Hempen and Kirk Ellison, a son-in-law, Thomas Ellison, a sister, Evelyn Doyle and a brother, Arthur Koehler. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, February 26 at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk, IA with Reverend Jack Spratte officiating. Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, IL. Memorials were established for the St. Paul United Church of Christ or to the donor's choice. She moved to the Grenada Living Center in January 2004. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Aberdeen with Bro. Gladwin Carpenter, Bro. Larry Windham and Bro. David Cox officiating. Burial will be in Jones Cemetery. Survivors include a son, W.C. Jaudon Jr. and wife, Sylvia, of Grenada; two grandchildren, Valorie Woods and husband, Mike, of Duck Hill and Trent Jaudon and wife, Susan, of Grenada; five great-grandchildren, Kayla Wood, Audra Wood, Micah Brooke Woods, Brittany Jaudon and Brianna Jaudon; a brother, J.D. Cox of Clinton. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cladie Jaudon; and two brothers, Frank Cox and W.P. Cox. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
