Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or A.L.S. DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, is in charge of arrangements. Janice was born April 24, 1927, in Moline, to Lysle and Marie McFarland Lavender. She married S. Allen Holt Aug. 9, 1948, in Jefferson, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 1993. Mrs. Holt retired in 1976, from the former Moline Public Hospital working in the emergency room and newborn nursery. She earlier was employed in the medical department at the Rock Island Arsenal from 1950-51. She also worked for Philip Nonnenmann, D.D.S. from 1978-86. She served in the Nurse Cadet Corp while in training at Moline Public Hospital. She was a member of the former Bethel Methodist Church and former Aldersgate United Methodist Church, both of Moline. Janice enjoyed her yard and gardening. She loved her family and was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed her pets. Survivors include her daughters, Vickie Shrake, Moline, Debra Holt, Springfield, Ill., and Sheri Holt, Rock Island; sons and daughter-in-law, Scott Holt, Silvis, and Kent and Julie Holt, Coal Valley; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Lewis, Moline, and Charlene Holloway, Eustis, Fla.; and special friends, Verna Hayes and Erlyne Park.
