John Rigg

1687 - 1711

Charles County, Maryland

John Rigg appears in Charles County, Maryland records following his death in 1711, leaving a widow, Susannah.

John Rigg, d. 1711, Charles Co., MD

Susannah (Posey) Rigg was 20 years old when John Rigg died.

It is reasonable to assume that John Rigg descended from the Thomas Rigg who died in Charles County, Maryland in 1688. In 1686 cattle marks were recorded for two of Thomas Rigg's children (Mary and Thomas). Given the youthful ages of the Morris children for whom cattle marks were recorded at the same time, it is likely that the Rigg children were also youthful. There doesn't appear to be enough time for Thomas to have had adult children by 1686. Given that, John Rigg was likely born in 1687, the son of Thomas Rigg and Constance (who later married John Gardiner). Since Constance would have been about 18 years old in 1686, Thomas and Mary may have been Thomas's children from a previous marriage.

Susannah (Posey) Rigg is known to have been the mother of Thomas Rigg. Some on-line sources also show a daughter, Susannah Rigg, who married Isaac Bennet of Charles County, Maryland. Inventories of Isaac Bennet's estate were filed by Susannah Bennet 24 Aug 1737 and 1 May 1738. I have not seen the evidence connecting Susannah Bennet with the Rigg family.
