Violet M. Norsworthy (Roome), 91, formerly of Woodburn, recently of Bakersfield, Calif., died Aug. 7, 2006. Born July 28, 1915 in Waynoka, Okla., she moved with her family to Ripon, Calif., and later to McFarland, Calif., where she completed her secondary education. After attending numerous colleges, she completed her B.A. at San Jose State College in 1944 and began her lifelong career as an elementary school teacher. She taught in Terra Bella, Calif., Woodburn, and Daly City, Calif. In 1973, her name was entered into the Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America. She married George H. Norsworthy on Nov. 17, 1945 in San Francisco. He preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 1996. In 1979, following her retirement from the public school system, she and her husband moved from San Francisco back to Woodburn. Then in 2004, she moved to Bakersfield, Calif. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church, Willamette Christian School, and was Chairperson of United Church Women. She enjoyed decorating and sewing. She is survived by her sons, Lauren Norsworthy of Tyler, Texas, Galen Norsworthy of Bakersfield, Calif.; brother, Virgil Norsworthy; and three granddaughters. Funeral services was held at 10 a.m. Aug. 12 at Cornwell Colonial Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 14 at Willamette Memorial Park in Albany. Arrangements are by Cornwell Colonial Chapel.
