MORDECAI W. EAGLESTON, 80, of Lucasville, Ohio, formerly of Ceredo-Kenova, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2004, at home. Funeral services 2 p.m. Friday at Ceredo-Kenova Funeral Home, with Mike Akers officiating. Burial in Hillcrest Cemetery, Route 75, Kenova, W.Va. He was born July 26, 1924, in Ceredo, W.Va., a son of the late William Lewis Eagleston and Cleo Malcolm Eagleston. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Mary, Beulah, Bea and Nancy, and four brothers, Edward, Paul, Robert and Franklin. He retired in 1986 with 40 years of service as a conductor and brakeman with Norfolk and Western Railroad. He was a 1942 graduate of C-K High School, a WWII Navy veteran having served in the South Pacific, a member of the American Legion Post 93, and a member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Ceredo for many years. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Beatrice Kretzer Eagleston; one daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia M. and Vern Blaine of Lucasville, Ohio; one son and daughter-in-law, Mordecai W. Eagleston II and Kathleen of Peebles, Ohio; two sisters, Leora Eagleston of Ceredo, W.Va., and Cathlene Porter of Charleston, W.Va.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Friends may call one hour before the service Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Ohio, 2201 25th St., Portsmouth OH 45662-2927.
