Mary Greer Adkins of Adkins Loop, Olive Hill, Ky., passed away in the early morning hours of May 27, 2006, in Lexington, Ky., at the University of Kentucky Hospital. She passed on as the result of a heart attack. Mary was 89 years old. Mary was the daughter of Charles and Samantha Wright Greer of Olive Hill. She was born May 23, 1917. She married James Ersell Adkins on July 8, 1933. This union produced five children ? three sons and two daughters. Mary was a loving and caring wife, mother and homemaker for all the days of her adult life. She was born again and baptized into the church in the summer of 1950. She was later called to service in the church as the wife of a deacon and served Christ and his church faithfully and with great joy. As a Christian, she was a member of the order of United Baptists. She was a prayerful and loving mother, a reverent and humble servant of Christ, a caring sister, aunt and grandmother, a dutiful wife and an example of a life filled with the love of God. Mary is survived by two sons, Lester Wayne Adkins and James Ersell Adkins Jr., both of Olive Hill; two daughters, Mary Lenora Mabry of Mauk Ridge, Ky., and Levona Calhoun of Grayson, Ky.; a brother, Morrow Greer of Ashland, Ky.; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, James, she was preceded in death by her youngest son, Charles Thomas Adkins; a grandson, Matthew Calhoun; two brothers; and two sisters. She will be missed by all who knew her till we meet again on Heaven's bright and eternal shore. Services for Mary will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson. Timothy Porter and Arthur "Tiny" Breeding will officiate. She will be laid to rest in Adkins Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. today, after 9 a.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to sparksfh.com.
